Tiny Kitchen Remodel?

4 Apr

Could this be the "Slightly Bigger Kitchen"?

The Husband has been throwing around the idea that there could be a Tiny Kitchen Remodel. We have a possibility of some free or low-cost, slightly pre-used cabinets, plus my Dad to design, project manage and complete said design.

I’m trying not to get too excited, or too hung up on the idea because it might not happen. But I hope it does! And if we get those cabinets for cheap (from a house that is slated for demolition), there seems to be no reason not to, since ours are falling off the wall. Plus, see photo at right illustrating how little storage space we have. Dare I dream, dear readers?

Now, we are lucky to have my Dad to help with this—let me tell you about what my Dad could do in a weekend, back in the day. He’d come home from work on a Friday night, have a scotch and stare at the back wall of the family room in our Orange County tract home. Then he’d change his clothes and rip out that wall and install some French doors over the weekend. Those puppies would be done—not stained or varnished, but in—by Sunday night. That’s right—my Dad’s a building ROCK STAR.

Granted, he’s not 45 anymore, but he still an expert and can get others to do the heavy lifting and hard work—that will NOT be The Husband either, by the way. They are both in management roles for the Tiny Kitchen Remodel, and perfectly placed.

If this all goes to plan, my job will be dancing gleefully around the house and promising to clean all the dust from floor to ceiling while singing a song about how wonderful The Husband is.

And he is the epitome of wonderfulness, new kitchen or not. xoxo

Watch this space, friends, and keep your fingers crossed!

Oh oh oh!!! That’s so exciting!! Don’t want to get your hopes up too much in case it doesn’t work out… but YAY!!!! 🙂 You’ll have to keep your TKS name though because we’ve all grown to love it! Your dad sounds quite handy, and ‘the husband’ sounds like quite a cutie… I’m picturing you dancing gleefully.. 🙂

Oh, I feel for you with the cupboards outside. I used to have a truly tiny kitchen & now my somewhat-larger kitchen feels like a spacious luxury. 🙂 Good luck!

Thank you–that is so sweet! Keep your fingers crossed for me–the “free” cupboards now come with a price tag all of a sudden. Some people, eh? 😉

I hope you get your new kitchen. How lucky are you to have a dad like you do. Back in the day, my dad was the same way, but he’s slowed down quite a bit! Yay dads!

Thank you! It won’t be bigger, necessarily, but nicer and updated. Will be talking to my Dad about it today over brunch. I cross my fingers for your dream kitchen to arrive soon! 🙂
