This is a long overdue post, but I would like to thank, from the bottom of my heart and tiny kitchen, Lucy’s Friendly Foods for nominating me for the Kreativ Blogger Award! This woman is an absolute angel, coming up with all sorts of allergy-free foods for her children, even down to packing them a lunch so that they can attend their friends’ parties without starving to death or having an allergy attack. With some food intolerances myself, I love reading her blog to see how creative a person can be in the kitchen to make delicious food even without items that some would find indispensable. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to nominate her for this award, but I think she definitely deserves it.
So, the rules of the award are to thank the person who gave you the award (check!), name seven other bloggers (below) and reveal seven things about myself (further below). I’m very pleased with myself that I have not included ALL food blogs this time! See, I do have other interests! (When I’m not in the kitchen, or slaving over a hot laptop.)
So, my nominees are:
- Stir & Stitch: Needlework and baking—she does both so beautifully.
- Emmy Cooks: Always creative, and is another one of those blogs where I want to make just about everything she posts.
- Girl in a Food Frenzy: A lovely blogger from down under who is both a costume designer for theatre and in chef training.
- While Chasing Kids: Not only is it a fantastic name for a blog, her recipes are delicious, and many from her Motherland of Russia. (Apologies if it’s a Fatherland!)
- The Taste Space: She makes great vegetarian food, and is as obsessed with wraps as I am. Except she actually makes them more than I do.
- Global Art Junkie: I’ve found out about some amazing artists on this site. I love how blogs can introduce me to different things!
- Jacob the Hob Nob: Hob Nobs are delectable English cookies, but this guy writes great reviews about film, another of my passions.
Now, seven things about me:
- I have a bit of a shoe obsession; seven pairs of Manolo Blahniks and counting.
- I lived in London for 11 years and miss it quite a bit, especially all of my friends. And the restaurants!
- I am pleased to say that I had the opportunity to eat at El Bulli, and even toured the (ridiculously large) kitchen with Ferran Adria.
- I had a much better garden in London on a balcony than I have managed to grow in Laguna Beach. Go figure.
- I can’t stand girly movies like Eat, Pray, Love. Give me action, car chases, aliens or spies every time.
- Sad but true fact: I got serious about cooking when my mom was going through chemotherapy. I tried to make all her favorites perfectly so that she would eat and keep her strength up.
- In honor and in memory of my mom, I’m donating eight inches of my hair to ChildrenWithHairLoss.us next week.
Thank you again to the lovely Lucy! Now I must go and let each of these bloggers know that I nominated them for the Kreativ Blogger Award!
Congratulations! Looks like some great new blogs to explore… Wonderful that you are donating your locks; such a beautiful tribute to your mom.
Thank you–she really had a hard time losing her hair, and the wig helped her spirits immensely. And the kids with cancer…it just breaks my heart. And, as I said before, I have PLENTY of hair! 😉
Congratulations! Well deserved! Beautiful tribute to your mother, beautiful reason to get serious about cooking, and 7 PAIRS OF MANOLO BLAHNIKS???? Jealous.
Yeah, I had a bit of a shoe problem when I lived in London! I’m spending more on kitchen things now, but it’s nice to get the MBs out once in a while! 🙂
A big congrats on your award and I hope it keeps inspiring you to cook dishes for the ones you love. It’s a very moving story regarding your mother and what inspired you to see cooking more seriously too. What a wonderful gesture you’re making for the hair donation too. Very poignant 🙂
On another note, how exciting to read a little more about your El Bulli stories, *swoon*
Thank you! I was so happy to find a place that would take colored hair, and a charity specifically for children. I know my mom would approve! 🙂
Thank you again, link back to your nomination here and my blog roll of sorts 🙂

You’re welcome!!
Thank you so much for the Kreativ Blogger award nomination for Global Art Junkie. I am honored. I cannot guarantee I can immediately do the picks and the 7 random things about me, and I will post my own nominees and my own random things as soon as I can. I really appreciate your kind comments – and I love your other picks.
Don’t worry about doing it immediately–it’s taken me weeks to do this post, so no pressure. Thank you for helping to broaden my horizons and remind me how much I love art! Please keep up the wonderful work!
Thanks so much for the shout-out! I think that is an awesome way how you jumped into home cooking. When I realized my grandparents wouldn’t be around forever to cook my favourite dishes, I turned to them to learn more about it myself.. and it just grew from there! Good luck with your hair donation! 🙂
Thank you, thank you! I wish I had done the same thing with my grandparents, and also asked my mom a few more things about her heritage. And I’ll be happy to lose 8 inches of my hair–I’m starting to look like Rapunzel! 😉
Congratulations. Thanks for sharing some stories about you. 🙂
Thanks for the comment! I’m really looking forward to donating my hair–it will feel nice to help someone in need, even in such a small way. 🙂
When my daughter was about 12, she donated 18″ of hair to ‘Locks of Love,” for children with cancer. It is a really nice thing to do. Hope your new hairstyle looks great!
I wish I could give that much, but The Husband likes my long hair–it’s as much of a sacrifice for him as it is for me! Your daughter sounds wonderful–apparently 90% of those who donate hair are children. That says something, doesn’t it? 🙂
You definitely deserve the award, and I’m so touched that you would pass it in to me! And I’m also touched by your Mom’s legacy in your life, what a good one.
I’m loving your blog, so you deserve the kudos! Keep up the wonderful work. 🙂
I just wanted to tell you I’ve done some more browsing of the nominees you chose, and they’re really great selections. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad I can expose you to some new things in the same way that you’ve done for me! Happy exploring!
Thank you so very much for your lovely comments. It’s really made my day x 🙂
They are all true! You’re a dedicated momma and should be appreciated as such. I hope they know how lucky they are to have you! 🙂
That’s a very sweet reason to have gotten you in the kitchen, tks. I’m sure she appreciated every tiny morsel more than you could ever imagine. And way to go (and the husband) with the hair donation. That’s awesome!! 🙂
Thank you! I’m starting to get a bit nervous about the hair cutting. But I know it will feel great and look even better. Then time to grow it out again!
I’m sure my mom did appreciate the cooking, and I’m sure she’ll be watching the hair cutting from “up there!” 🙂
She’ll think you look lovely 🙂
I adore your taste in shoes! And congrats on your award Jennifer!
Thank you, and thank you! They don’t get to go out that often, as Laguna is sooooo casual (unless you’re one of the Newport glitterati)
Congratulations! 😉
